The Bug Report Key

Press [,] · a real way to report a bug with the details that actually explain it, not just a description

Pressing [,] (comma) anywhere in the game opens a small report box asking what happened. It exists for a specific, stated reason: a lot of what goes wrong is invisible to anyone testing the game from outside a real play session — a script error nobody saw, a location that only matters in context, a stat that was only wrong for this particular character. "Some towns look old" is a real report the game shipped this feature in response to; this is the tool for turning that into something someone can actually act on.

What gets attached automatically

Alongside whatever you type, the report automatically includes:

  • The current build number.
  • Your position in the world.
  • Your character's skills.
  • The last 25 console errors from the current session — including genuine crashes (uncaught exceptions) and silently-rejected promises, which are different kinds of error under the hood and both get captured. Nothing about that capture interferes with anything else already listening for errors; it only adds a second listener rather than taking over the first one.

Saving a report

Pressing SAVE REPORT writes a file to your downloads — there's currently no server for it to send to automatically, so nothing is silently lost or faked as "sent" when it wasn't; you get a real file you can actually hand over. A comma typed while you're writing your description doesn't re-trigger the box, and the key does nothing while any modifier (Ctrl, Alt, or the Windows/Command key) is held.

Version history

  • Added, directly on request for exactly the reasons described above — turning "some towns look old" into a report with a build number, a location, and whatever else was actually happening at the time.

Trivia

  • Comma was chosen specifically because it was the only free punctuation key left — every function key from F1 through F10 already does something else in the game or the browser, and F11/F12 belong to the browser itself.
